Teaching Experience:

2022 - 2025 - PUMC Children’s Center

I taught a variety of Creative Movement enrichment courses for ages 2-11 over the course of 13 weeks which utilized warm-ups like BrainDance to focus on building large and small motor skills, sensory motor systems, musicality, and rhythmic vocabulary.

Here I taught a total of 21 weekly classes in various styles including Jazz, Ballet, Pre-ballet, Tap, Musical Theater, Creative Movement, Contemporary, and Modern dance. I also established a new curriculum for and led the Tap program of 50+ students. I created developmentally appropriate syllabi and prepared students for testing into higher levels that depended upon knowledge and understanding of technique, vocabulary, rhythm, and improvisation.

2018-2020 - Mark Morris Dance Group - Brooklyn, NY

I began at Mark Morris Dance Group as an intern in the Education department and established an organizational roster system spanning 35 dance integration classes throughout public and charter schools in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. I worked directly under the Department Head taking minutes in staff meetings, organizing applications and audition profiles, and recruiting potential new instructors. Following my internship, I worked as an assistant and substitute instructor for various classes and community initiatives including Adaptive Dance Programs, Hip-hop programs, Dance for PD®, language immersion programs, and in-school Dance Integration Programs.

At this competitive dance studio I taught various styles including Jazz, Tap, Modern, Kickline, Hip-hop, Contemporary, Creative Movement, Musical Theater, Ballet, and Pre-ballet within a certified ABT® program. I also handled administrative work including organizing class schedules and attendance; giving guided tours to potential students; drafting studio newsletters detailing community events and instructor highlights; and editing music for performances and competitions. In addition to administrative work, I used Canva to create advertisements for the studio and its programs, upcoming performances, competitions, and instructor highlights to enhance engagement and increase visibility to prospective students and families.

While in High School I began assisting in younger classes, ages 2-7, and worked as a substitute in those classes when needed.

Teaching Mission

I believe it is vital for teachers to not only understand and be able to demonstrate developmentally appropriate and engaging movements for their students, but to also be able to adapt to different teaching environments depending on their students’ levels of accessibility, family backgrounds, skills, and social/emotional needs. In younger classes especially, I strong believe in building autonomy within the classroom and utilizing somatic movement warm-ups like BrainDance to grow sensory-motor systems. I try to teach the importance of musicality and technique foundation within all styles dance and encourage students to expand upon their rhythmic vocabulary when in my classes.
